Beta Patch 17 – Full Patch Notes

Even though the end of the beta is in sight, another patch was deployed today (although the servers are still down at the time of this post). Here is what it did:

  • All characters have been wiped. Items, gold, auctions, achievements, followers, and artisans have also been wiped, and Beta Bucks have been reset to 50.
  • Cross-game chat is available! Beta participants can now keep in touch with their Real ID and BattleTag friends, no matter which Blizzard game they’re playing.
    • Please note that some restrictions do apply for BattleTag chat:
      • You can only send BattleTag invites while logged into the Diablo III beta client
      • You can only receive BattleTag invites while logged into the Diablo III beta client

The End of the Beta is Nigh

The community site posted a new blog post discussing the inevitable- the end of the beta. However, it will be up until 2 weeks before launch so we can squeeze in some more pre-release Act 1 action until May 1st. Here is the official announcement:

The Diablo III Beta Draws to a Close

We’d like to thank everyone who has participated in the Diablo III beta. You’ve done an admirable job of testing, and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback you provided during this critical phase of development.

In preparation for the launch of Diablo III on Tuesday, May 15, the beta servers will be brought offline onTuesday, May 1. At that time, all beta accounts and character information will be reset. Leading up to Diablo’s May 15 launch date, players will only be able to create comments and forum posts on the official Diablo III community site if they have pre-purchased Diablo III or have a StarCraft II or an active World of Warcraft game license attached to their account. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to stay tuned to this website for exciting news and updates regarding the upcoming release.

Thank you again for your participation, and we’ll see you soon on!

      • Discipline cost decreased from 10 to 8

Will Diablo 3 PVP Become an eSport After All?

A recent interview on an episode of The Losers Bracket featured Sundance DiGiovanni , the co-founder and CEO of Major League Gaming. During the lengthy interview, some questions were asked regarding Diablo 3 and the answers were quite… exciting.

Sundance hinted at some very big news but was careful not to give much away. When specifically asked about what future titles MLG is planning to work with, DiGiovanni avoided directly answering the question. Instead, he stated that “there’s stuff in the works” and that a company based out of Anaheim “might be working with us. So, uh, you can piece that together. I can’t really comment.”

He also clarified that a recent tweet referencing going to Anaheim after E3 (which takes place in Los Angeles from June 5-7) did have something to do with an event at the Anaheim Convention Center with the unspecified company (Blizzard) and the unnamed new MLG title- implying Diablo 3.
